Jonathan Arcangel, Jazz Artist

Inspiring goodness through creative music

Jonathan Arcangel is a saxophonist, composer, and educator from the Hudson Valley. Arcangel is settling in NYC after being an active musician in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for several years, performing at a variety of venues with different ensembles. During his time at the University of North Texas, Arcangel was the Lead Tenor Saxophone in the Grammy-nominated One O'Clock Lab Band, playing in the band for 3 years (recorded on Lab '24, Lab '25, Winter Onederland, and Lab '26). Arcangel was the jazz saxophone winner of the 2025 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition. More recently, he won the Outstanding Soloist Award from DownBeat (2026). 

During his senior year at Cornwall Central High School, Arcangel was selected to be the Lead Tenor Saxophone of the NAfME All-National Honor Jazz Ensemble. Additionally, Arcangel was declared the winner of the North American Saxophone Alliance 2022 High School Jazz Competition, and was a finalist in the UMass Amherst High School Jazz Saxophone Competition in 2020. He has performed with numerous ensembles, including various All-State and National ensembles, as well as jazz groups on the East Coast and around the DFW area. 

An avid composer and arranger, Jonathan Arcangel strives to create authentic and uplifting music that has a deep emotional and spiritual impact on the listener. 

Arcangel has worked with many stellar musicians, including Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, Steve Wilson, Nicholas Payton, Terell Stafford, Ingrid Jensen, Michael Philip Mossman, Brad Leali, Ken Ebo, Bryan Davis, Pete Malinverni, Adam Larson, Benny Benack III, Andrew Gould, Geoff Vidal, Quincy Davis, Rufus Reid, Rodney Booth, Benny Green, Lynn Seaton, Billy Childs, Steve Davis, Charlie Rosen, Rob Parton, Jimmy O'Connell, Davy Mooney, Nick Finzer, Dave Meder, Rich DeRosa, Philip Dizack, and Alan Baylock.
